JACKSON, Miss. – After playing their final road game of the 2018 season last week, the Millsaps College football team returns home this weekend. Check out the game notes below for all the details.
Last Week
Last weekend the Majors traveled to Kentucky for a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) matchup with the Colonels of Centre College.
Millsaps trailed 14-6 at halftime, but Colonel offense found their groove in the second half. Centre scored five touchdowns in the final thirty minutes, including 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter, to come away with the 49-13 win.
For the Millsaps offense, Walker and
Andrew Warren each saw 15 carries on the ground. Warren led the way with 72 yards, but it was Walker who found the endzone for the Majors.
Chance Clowers finished 19-35 for 165 yards passing.
Ty Durham was the team's leading receiver with 5 catches for 73 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Hooch Jeansonne led the team with 6 total tackles.
Liam Vincifora and
Ian O'Brien each had a sack for Millsaps, and in the secondary Higgins and
Malcolm Ben both had interceptions.
Tomorrow: 1:00pm vs Birmingham-Southern College (5-3, 3-3 SAA)
The Birmingham-Southern College Panthers make the trip to Jackson for a week nine matchup with the Majors. BSC is coming off a 26-10 loss last week to #9 Berry College, but the Panthers have picked up wins in three out of their last four games.
BSC boasts the league's second-best offense on paper, led by senior QB Trevor Oakes. Oakes is averaging 236.6 yards through the air and has thrown for 8 touchdowns. On the ground a pair of sophomores, Zack Seay and Robert Shufford, get the bulk of the carries for the Panthers. Seay leads the way with 555 yards rushing and 8 touchdowns.
Cole Marell, Gentry Neese and Buddy Dowd all have over 30 receptions for BSC. Marell leads the way with 606 yards receiving while Dowd leads the team with 4 receiving touchdowns.
Defensively, Birmingham-Southern is led by sophomore LB Garrett Stevens who is tops in the SAA with 9.5 tackles per game. Another LB, sophomore Myles Myers, has a total of 6 sacks on the season while Matthew Byers and Dylan Main are tied for team-lead with three interceptions each.
Series History
Birmingham-Southern leads the all-time series 6-20-3. The last Millsaps win over the Panthers came in 2016, a 41-28 blowout at Harper Davis Field.
