Men's Basketball Picks Up 81-76 Overtime Win Against Centenary

CONWAY, Ark. -- On the second day of the SAA/SCAC Challenge the Millsaps College Majors took on the Gents of Centenary College.

The Majors led 41-25 at halftime, but a huge second half by Centenary sent the game into overtime. In the extra period Millsaps was able to outscore Centenary 13-8 to pick up the 81-75 win.

How It Happened
A strong defensive effort from the Majors had them out to a huge lead at halftime. Millsaps held Centenary to just 27.3% shooting from the field in the first twenty minutes of play.

On the offensive end of the floor, the Majors were led by a 12 point performance from Michael Sullivan. He was red-hot from three-point territory where he connected on 4 of his 5 attempts.

In the second-half the Gents responded in a big way. They chipped away at the Millsaps lead for the better part of the half, and actually took a 59-57 lead with just 4:26 left to play.

The Majors fought back, and took the reclaimed the lead at 66-64  with less than 2 minutes left in the game. After a Centenary free throw, She'Chem Grant put Millsaps up 68-65 with 11 seconds remaining.

Unfortunately, the Gents hit a game-tying three pointer with 4 seconds left to force overtime.

Millsaps never trailed in the extra period, and even stretched their lead out to 8 with a pair of free throws from Grant with less than a minute to play. Sullivan poured in 7 of his game-high 25 points in overtime to help the lead the Majors to the 81-75 win.

Justin Van Pelt joined Sullivan with double-digits 10 points, and pulled in a team-high 10 rebounds to pick up his first double-double of the season. Sullivan added 8 boards and 3 assists to his statline. Defensively, Ryan McLaurin had a pair of steals for the Majors.

With today's win Millsaps improves to 3-0 on the season, the best start for the Majors since the 2010-11 season.

Millsaps returns home this weekend for a pair of games against non-conference opponents. On Saturday the Majors will play Howard Payne University, and on Sunday they are set to face off against the University of Dallas. Both games are scheduled for a 5:00pm tip-off.
