JACKSON, Miss.—Some games, you just have it.
That's what happened for the Millsaps women's basketball team on Sunday against visiting LeTourneau University. After the Yellow Jackets tied the game at 5 at the 5:52 mark of the first quarter, the Majorstook the lead on an
Anna Thigpen layup and never relinquished it as they dominated LeTourneau en route to a 69-51 win to close out the Majors Thanksgiving Invitational.
How It Happened
After gutting out a win over Howard Payne on Saturday, the Majors had a little bit more breathing room against the smaller Yellow Jackets. The Majors were able to use their size to outrebound LeTourneau 48-32 and outscore them 38-18 in the paint.
Defense also played a big part in the win, as the Majors were able to hold LeTourneau to just 18-63 shooting from the field. Millsaps also had 6 steals on the day.
Dia Fortenberry was a force for Millsaps, producing her second double-double of the season. She had a game-high 22 points to go along with her game-high 13 rebounds, 3 of which were offensive.
Morgan McCrea continued her hot scoring streak, as she added 14 points a night after scoring 26 against Howard Payne.
Anna Wilson stayed consistent with double-digit points, as she added 11 to go with her 7 rebounds. She has scored in double figures in each of the Majors 5 games this season.
By The Numbers
-14 of Fortenberry's 22 points came from the free throw line. In total, the Majors got to the line 36 times while limiting the Yellow Jackets to just 15 attempts.
-McCrea has hit at least one three-pointer in all five of the Majors games this season.
-The 28.6 shooting percentage that the Majors allowed tonight is their lowest for the season.
