Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Majors End Time in Texas with Win over UDallas

IRVING, Tx.—After knocking off the 19th ranked team in the country Friday night, the Millsaps women's basketball team very well could have had a letdown performance against a University of Dallas team with no wins.

And at halftime, it seemed like it could be a possibility; Millsaps was only leading by 3. But the Majors turned on the jets in the second half and downed the Crusaders 65-54 for their sixth straight win.

How It Happened

Dia Fortenberry got the scoring started early for Millsaps, putting in a layup just 16 seconds into the game. But even though UDallas was winless, they weren't willing to just roll over for the Majors, as they had an answer for every Millsaps point in the first quarter. With UD leading 11-10, Megan Donaldson hit a three to give Millsaps a 13-11 lead, but the Crusaders ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to lead 15-13 after one.

Millsaps got down by as many as 5 in the second quarter before mounting a comeback, highlighted by four free throws from Morgan McCrea and an Anna Wilson layup. UD briefly took the lead back at 25-22, but two Donaldson threes knotted the game at 25 and 28. Millsaps then used a 7-4 run to take a slight 35-32 halftime lead.

The Majors came out shooting after halftime, as they dominated UDallas in the third quarter. Millsaps started the quarter on an 11-1 run and outscored UD 16-5 in the third frame.

The start of the fourth was much of the same, as the Majors were able to build a 16-point lead midway through the quarter. The Crusaders ended the game on an 8-4 run but the lead was too much to overcome as Millsaps moved to 7-1 on the season.

Three Millsaps players scored in double figures in the game as Millicent Butler and McCrea each had 14 while Wilson chipped in 10 to go along with her 9 rebounds. Donaldson had 9, all of which came by the three.

Stats of the Game

-Millsaps turned 16 UD turnovers into 17 points but only allowed 4 points off turnovers themselves.

-The Majors bench outscored the Crusaders 20-4.

What's Next?

Millsaps will have some time off for finals before returning to action on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Belhaven. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 3pm.
