Thomas’s Big Night Propels Majors to Seventh Straight Win

JACKSON, Miss.—This time, it was a little easier.

A month after needing a late rally and overtime to take down Belhaven, the Majors were able to breathe a little easier as they took down the Blazers 66-55 for their seventh straight win.

How It Happened

The two teams traded the lead back and forth throughout the first quarter, with neither being able to pull ahead by more than a couple. With Millsaps leading by one late in the quarter, a Blazer three gave them a 13-11 lead that they would carry into the second quarter.

The Blazers were able to build their lead to 5, at 16-11, to start the second quarter. But that's when Braxton Thomas took control. Playing in just her second game of the season after returning from injury, the senior scored 9 points on a Majors 11-0 run, including seven straight, along with a Kasi Matthews layup, to give the Majors a 22-16 lead. An and-one cut the Millsaps lead to three but Thomas hit a three to keep the lead at six. Belhaven ended the quarter on a 5-0 run but Millsaps kept the lead at halftime.

In the third, the two teams traded leads again, until, tied at 35, a basket and foul by Morgan McCrea, along with an Anna Wilson layup, gave Millsaps a five-point lead they wouldn't relinquish.

In the fourth, Dia Fortenberry used back-to-back layups to keep Millsaps ahead, eventually building the lead to 6. Thomas sealed the win with a fastbreak layup with just over two minutes left to secure the 11-point Majors win.

Offensively, Thomas led all scorers with 19 points while Fortenberry and Taelor Manning added 10 apiece. Fortenberry also had nine rebounds to lead the Majors.

Stat of the Game

-10 different Millsaps players scored in the win, their second straight game with double-digit scorers.

What's Next?
