CONWAY, Ark. – Junior
Michael Sullivan led the way with 19 points as the Majors men's basketball team knocked off Hendrix 78-73 in their final SAA road game of the 2017-2018 season. The win improves the Millsaps record to 8-16 overall and 5-8 in conference play. Hendrix falls to 5-19 on the year, and 3-10 inside the SAA.
Eight different players notched their name in the scoring column in a first-half that saw the Majors build up a 41-29 lead. With Millsaps leading 18-15 at the nine-minute mark the Majors rattled off nine unanswered points to really open their lead. A pair of layups from freshman
Drew Burnett contributed to the 9-0 run.
As the second-half began Millsaps grabbed their largest lead of the ballgame when sophomore
Saxton Becker converted on an old-fashioned three-point play to put the Majors up 46-29. Hendrix battled back in the middle part of the half cutting the lead to as little as 69-65 with 5:29 left to play.
Millsaps held on however, and responded with another 9-0 run to regain control of the contest. Even after the Warriors looked to be making another comeback, and cut it to 77-73 with under a minute to play the Majors were able to close things out and complete the season sweep of Hendrix.
Freshman
Joshua Miller, sophomore
James Turner and Becker joined Sullivan, and finished the game with double-digit point totals. Turner fell one rebound shy of a double-double as he led the team with 9 boards.
Millsaps will wrap up the regular season this weekend as they host Birmingham-Southern on Saturday afternoon. Senior
Sam Kohnke will be honored prior to the 3:00pm tip-off.
