CONWAY, Ark. – In their final road regular season game of the season, the Millsaps women's basketball team came up short, 60-47 Sunday afternoon at Hendrix. The Majors are now 8-16 overall and 5-8 in the SAA, while Hendrix improves to 17-7 and 9-4 in conference play.
Freshman
Dia Fortenberry led the Majors with ten points, while junior
Millicent Butler came away with eight points and sophomore
Megan Donaldson finished with seven. Sophomore
Anna Wilson was strong on the glass, coming away with a game high ten rebounds and junior
Braxton Thomas pulled down seven boards.
After a slow start by both teams, two layups from Butler equaled just four points in the first quarter for the Majors and Millsaps found themselves trailing 8-4 at the end of one.
The defensive battle continued into the second. Donaldson hit a three with 6:54 left in the quarter to make it a 13-11 deficit. After three free throws tied the game at 14, each side traded baskets and Hendrix found themselves on top 18-17 with 2:33 until the half. The Warriors made two more at the line to end the half and take a 20-17 lead at the break.
Rebecca Harris and
Taelor Manning both hit three's to start the third, leading a 6-1 run and giving the Majors a 23-21 lead in the first minute of the quarter. After the Warriors answered back with a long ball of their own, Millsaps played from behind the entire quarter. But Wilson's last second free throws kept the deficit at 37-34 at the end of three.
Hendrix used their home court to its advantage in the fourth, outscoring Millsaps 23-13 to finish the game. The Majors took a 42-41 lead with 4:29 to go, but Hendrix closed the game on an 18-6 run to hand Millsaps the road loss.
Millsaps returns to the Hangar Dome for its final game of the regular season against Birmingham-Southern, game time is scheduled for a 1:00pm start. The team will honor their lone senior
