Women’s Hoops Closes Regular Season With OT Loss to BSC

JACKSON, Miss. – On the final day of the regular season, Millsaps let their ten point halftime lead slip away and eventually fell in overtime, 82-77 on Saturday afternoon. Millsaps finishes their season 8-17 and 5-9 in the SAA, the Majors finish as the No. 8 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

Sophomore Megan Donaldson dropped seven threes to lead the scoring with 22 points off the bench. Freshman Dia Fortenberry came away with 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists off the bench. Sophomore Anna Wilson finished with 16 points on 7-11 shooting and junior Rebecca Harris tallied nine points, six rebounds and three assists.

Wilson scored the first six points for the Majors and Fortenberry followed with the next four, but BSC stayed with the pace and held a 12-10 lead with 1:52 remaining in the first. Donaldson closed out the quarter with two shots from deep to give the Majors a 16-12 lead at the end of the first.

Donaldson started the second with a three and hit another with 4:38 left in the quarter to extend the Millsaps lead to 27-20. After a Panther basket, Harris made consecutive jumpers, Donaldson hit her fifth three of the game and Taelor Manning finished a layup to complete a 9-4 run and take a 36-26 lead at the break.

BSC began to cut into the lead in the third. After Donaldson's three brought the Majors lead to 56-45 with 2:43 to go, the Panthers answered with a three of their own and finished the third with a layup to close the gap to 56-50.

With Millsaps hanging on to a 67-61 lead with 2:18 left in the game, BSC turned their offense on and closed out regulation on a 6-0 run including the game tying to three with 31 seconds remaining to take the game into overtime.

The Majors took an early lead in OT but BSC outscored the Majors 13-4 over the final three minutes of play.

After the game, the team honored senior Jessica Patterson for her contributions on and off the court.

Millsaps will head to Atlanta for the SAA tournament beginning on Friday and will play top seeded Oglethorpe Friday night.
