JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps College baseball team came into Tuesday's game with #16 UT-Tyler riding a five-game winning streak. Unfortunately that came to an end as the Patriots scored seven runs in the first two innings and held on for the 7-1 win. The loss drops the Millsaps record to 6-3 on the season. UT-Tyler improves to 4-3 overall.
In the top of the 1
st inning the Patriots got a two-run home run from Blake Maddox to grab the early 2-0 lead. The Patriots added on in the 2
nd inning as they scored five runs on six hits to really open things up, and make it a 7-0 game.
Brandon Saddler had the Major hitters off balance for the better part of the evening, but Millsaps did break through in the bottom of the 4
th.
After two quick outs,
Wes Lassere singled through the right side to get things going. He made it to second on a balk, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a
Jackson Hailey walk,
Cavan Breland lined a ball down the left field line to score Lassere, and give Millsaps their lone run of the evening.
On the mound
Langston Haden pitched a solid 6.1 innings out of the bullpen. He allowed just two hits and one walk. He also struck out two UT Tyler batters.
Another bright spot for the Majors was
Brennan Ducote. He continued his torrid pace at the plate as he turned in a 2-4 effort to keep his batting average at an even .500 on the season.
Next up, the Majors continue their long home stand with a pair of games at Twenty Field this weekend. They host Webster at 3:00pm on Saturday and the University of Dallas at 2:00pm on Sunday.
