Majors Drop Road Contest to Belhaven, 4-2

JACKSON, Miss. – In the first meeting and only meeting this season in the softball version of the Riverside Rumble, it was Belhaven coming out on top, 4-2 over Millsaps at Jim McLeod Field on the campus of Belhaven University Wednesday afternoon. The Majors fall to 7-2 on the season, while Belhaven improves to 3-2.

Cassidy DeNoon started in the circle for Millsaps and went 3.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits, while striking out three batters.

After two scoreless innings, Millsaps got things started offensively when Micah Danos led off the 3rd with a walk and moved to second on a groundout. Later in the inning, another groundout moved Danos to third and a throwing error by the Belhaven first baseman allowed Danos to score, making it 1-0 Millsaps after the top of the 3rd.

The Blazers answered back with three runs of their own in the home half of the 3rd. With two outs, a single drove across two runs and a double brought in one more to give Belhaven a 3-1 lead after three complete innings.

Millsaps cut the Blazer lead to just one run in the top of the 4th. The Majors drew back-to-back walks before Leslie Norris singled to load the bases, putting Lindsey Osbon on third with one out. Danos earned an RBI fielders choice to bring in Osbon and make it a 3-2 game.

Belhaven struck for one more in the bottom of the 4th with an RBI single to give the game its final score of 4-2.

Kayla Davidson pitched in relief and threw 2.1 shutout innings, she did not allow a hit and struck out two batters.

Conference play begins next for the Majors, they head to Memphis to take on Rhodes for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12:00pm and then a single game on Sunday, also at 12:00pm.
