CONWAY, Ark. – The Millsaps offense pounded out 18 hits, and the pitching staff combined to only allow three runs as the Majors completed the three-game sweep of Hendrix College on Saturday. Millsaps improves to 14-5 overall on the season and 5-1 in conference play. The Warriors drop to 4-11 overall and 2-4 in the SAA.
The Majors' offense has been hot all weekend long, and today was no different.
Andy Page led off the game with a double, and later scored on a RBI single by
Brennan Ducote to make it 1-0. In the 2
nd inning Page added a RBI groundout to score
Cavan Breland, and make it 2-0. In the 3
rd Jimmy Johnstone recorded the first of his four hits, a single that brought home Ducote and gave Millsaps a 3-0 lead.
Hendrix broke through for a run in their half of the 3
rd, but in the middle innings the Majors really opened things up.
With one out in the top of the 6
th Connor Woodall singled to left center, and later advanced all the way to third on an error. In the very next at bat Ducote doubled to left to score Woodall. After
Wes Lassere reached on an error,
Chase Callaway doubled to bring home both Ducote and Lassere and make it 6-1 Millsaps. A Hendrix pitching change did little to silence the Major rally as Johnstone would add a RBI single, and
Patrick Grumbley hit a sacrifice fly. All told after the top of the 6
th inning Millsaps found themselves with an 8-1 lead.
The Warriors did respond with one run in the bottom of the 6
th, but the Majors answered with a pair of insurance runs in the 9
th on singles by Ducote and Lassere.
Hendrix was able to get their final run in the top of the 9
th, but the Millsaps lead was never in jeopardy.
Bubba White recorded the final two outs of the ballgame to secure the 10-3 win.
Hayden Williams was credited with his second win of the season after working 5.1 innings on the mound and allowing just the two earned runs.
