JACKSON, Miss. – On Sunday, Millsaps College returned to Striplin Field for the rubber game in the three-game SAA series with Birmingham Southern. The Majors struck first, but BSC answered back in a big way and held on for a 15-5 win.
With the loss the Panthers take the three-game series two games to one. This is the first SAA series that Millsaps has lost this season.
The Majors' record now sits at 18-9 overall and 8-4 in conference play. BSC improves to 14-10 overall and 6-6 in the SAA.
The Millsaps offense really got things going in the top of the 1
st.
Andy Page singled to get things started, and he advanced to second on an error by the pitcher. In the next at-bat
Connor Woodall singled to left field which brought home Page to make it 1-0 Millsaps. After a pair of groundouts,
Chase Callaway beat out an infield single. Woodall scored on the play and the Majors led 2-0 after the top of the 1
st.
Unfortunately, the Panthers' offense got hot in the early going as well. They scored a run in the bottom of the 1
st, and then scored four in the 2
nd and four in the 3
rd to take a 9-2 lead.
Millsaps looked to get a comeback going in the top of the 6
th however. With Woodall and
Brennan Ducote on base,
Wes Lassere doubled to left to make it a 9-4 game. He came around to score on a single by
Christian Cooper to cut the BSC lead down to 9-5.
The Panthers answered right back in their half of the 6
th though. They scored three runs in the inning, and then capped off the victory with three more runs in the 7
th to grab the 15-5 win.
