Baseball Drops Game One of Series at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Millsaps College baseball program was on the road Friday evening for the first game of a weekend SAA series with Oglethorpe University. The Majors scored first, but the Stormy Petrels pounded out 13 hits on their way to a 14-4 win.

Millsaps falls to 18-11 on the year and 8-5 in the conference. Oglethorpe improves to 18-10 overall and 8-5 in SAA play. After today's action around the league the two teams find themselves tied for third place in the standings.

The Majors got on the board early in the top of the 1st inning. Andy Page led off the game by reaching on an error by the Oglethorpe shortstop. He advanced to third on a balk, and later scored when Connor Woodall doubled down the right field line.

The Stormy Petrels answered back with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 2-1 lead, but in the top of the 3rd Millsaps responded in a big way.

Patrick Grumbley and Page worked back-to-back walks to set the table for the Majors. After both players moved up on a groundout, Jacob Mardick singled through the right side bringing home Grumbley to tie the game at 2-2. In the very next at bat Wes Lassere singled to left field which scored Page. Later in the inning Chase Callaway reached on a fielder's choice. Mardick scored on the play to make it 4-2 Millsaps.

Unfortunately, it was all Oglethorpe from that point on. The Stormy Petrels scored five runs in the 3rd, two in the 4th, three in the 6th and two in the 7th to cap off their 14-4 win.
