Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Drops Saturday SAA Twinbill at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Millsaps College baseball team was back at Oglethorpe on Saturday to wrap up their series with a doubleheader. The Stormy Petrels were able to take both games to polish off their three-game sweep of the Majors by scores of 7-4 and 6-2.

Game 1
As has been a common theme so far this season, the Majors scored first. In the top of the 2nd inning Mason Little and Christian Cooper both reached to lead things off. After they advanced on a sacrifice bunt, Little scored when Cavan Breland reached on a fielder's choice to make it 1-0 Millsaps.

Oglethorpe had the answer however, as they scored seven unanswered runs to take a 7-1 lead. The Stormy Petrels got three runs in the 2nd and four runs in the 4th.

The Majors fought back in the top of the 5th inning, but their comeback attempt came up short. Jimmy Fondren provided the offensive firepower in the inning. With Wes Lassere and Breland on base, Fondren homered to left field to close the gap to 7-4.

Game 2
Millsaps also scored first in the day's second game. With one out in the inning Chase Callaway singled through the right side to score Andy Page, who had earlier reached on a walk.

After Oglethorpe tied the game in their half of the 1st, the Majors answered in the top of the 2nd. Page came through in the clutch with a two-out single to right field. Jackson Hailey scored on the play to give Millsaps a 2-1 lead.

Unfortunately, the Stormy Petrels scored in three of the final five innings to complete the series sweep with a 6-2 win.

The Majors' record now stands at 18-13 overall and 8-7 in the SAA.

What's Next?
Millsaps will break from SAA play, as they take on Belhaven in the second game of the Cowboy Maloney Series this week. The Majors will be looking to get back in the win column, and secure the season-series win over the Blazers. Millsaps won game one of the series 11-2 back on February 27th. Wednesday's first pitch from Smith-Wills Stadium is set for 4:00pm.
