Baseball Picks up Win in Final Road Non-Conference Game

MARSHALL, Texas – The Millsaps College baseball team traveled to Texas on Tuesday for their final road non-conference game of the season against East Texas Baptist University. The Majors outhit the Tigers, and used big 4th and 6th innings to come away with a 6-4 win.

The Millsaps record improves to 20-16 on the year. ETBU falls to 16-14.

On the mound, John Wiltshire and Chris Guerin combined to throw all nine innings. Wiltshire exited after three innings in which he allowed five hits and two earned runs. Guerin pitched the final six innings, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out six batters.

The offense was led by leadoff man Andy Page. He finished the afternoon with four hits in five at bats. Chase Callaway and Christian Cooper also had multi-hit games for the Majors.

After Millsaps got down 3-0 early on, the Majors offense responded in a big way in the top of the 4th inning.

Cooper singled to left-center scoring Connor Woodall for the first Millsaps run of the ballgame. Later in the inning Cooper scored when Page singled to the pitcher who then made an error on the play. Before the 4th inning was over the Majors tied the game at 3-3 on a wild pitch.

ETBU fought back to score a run in their half of the 4th, but Millsaps scored the final three runs of the game to get the win.

In the 6th inning Jimmy Johnstone came up with the bases loaded and singled to left field bringing home two runs to give Millsaps a 5-4 lead. The Majors got an insurance run on a wild pitch, and the 6-4 lead would be all the support Guerin needed to secure the victory.
