Baseball Closes Out SAA Regular Season with Win Over Centre

CONWAY, Ark. – On Sunday, the Majors closed out the SAA regular season with a game against the Colonels of Centre College. It was the rubber game of a three-game series that was played on the campus of Hendrix College due to inclement weather.

Millsaps scored 13 runs over the final three innings to come away with a 21-10 win, and take the series two games to one.

The win improves the Majors' record to 22-17 overall and 9-11 in the SAA. The Colonels fall to 15-20 overall and 6-12 in the conference.

The game started off with a pair of scoreless innings on both sides, but in the top of the 3rd inning Millsaps opened up the scoring in a big way.

The Majors loaded the bases on a Christian Cooper walk, and singles from Patrick Grumbley and Andy Page. Cavan Breland got things started with a RBI single through the left side. Jimmy Johnstone drew a bases loaded walk. Chase Callaway singled up the middle to bring home Page. Connor Woodall brought home Breland on a sacrifice squeeze bunt. Wes Lassere singled to left field which brought home Callaway and Johnstone, and Lassere scored on an error by the Centre second baseman. All told Millsaps scored seven runs on six hits and one Colonel error to take an early 7-0 lead.

Centre responded with one run in the bottom of the 3rd and a run in the 4th to make it a 7-2 game. Millsaps got one of those runs back in the top of the 5th inning when Grumbley recorded a RBI groundout allowing Lassere to score and make it 8-2.

The Colonels biggest push came in the bottom of the 6th inning as they cut the deficit down to 8-5 thanks to a single, and a pair of Majors' errors.

Over the final three innings Millsaps' offense erupted for 13 total runs. The Colonels scored five of their own, but that was not nearly enough as the Majors came away with the 21-10 win.

Breland led the Millsaps offense with five RBIs on three hits. Johnstone drove in three runs, and Lassere, Grumbley and John Houston Robertson all had multi-hit games for the Majors.

Daniel Adams got the start on the mound, and he turned in three innings of hitless baseball, allowing just one unearned run. Chris Guerin was credited with his second win of the season, as he pitched two innings, and gave up just one run. John Wiltshire, Bubba White and Hayden Williams closed out the game for Millsaps. They combined to allow just five earned runs over the final four innings.
