Baseball Drops Sunday Doubleheader at Home to Sewanee

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps College baseball team wrapped up their weekend SAA series against Sewanee with a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers rallied late in the first game to grab a 7-5 win, and then shutout the Majors game two to complete the sweep.

Millsaps' record falls to 19-16 overall and 8-10 in SAA play. The Tigers improve to 12-19 and 6-12 in the conference.

Game 1
In the first game of the afternoon the Majors rallied from a 4-1 deficit, and actually carried a 5-4 lead into the top of the 9th inning. Unfortunately, the Tigers plated three runs to retake the lead at 7-5, and then held on for the win.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning Chase Callaway sent his second home run of the season over the right field wall to make it a 2-1 game.

After Sewanee answered with a pair of runs in the 5th the Majors' offense really went to work in the 6th.

Millsaps loaded the bases on a single by Wes Lassere, a walk by Callaway and a hit by pitch of Connor Woodall. After a pitching change, Jimmy Johnstone came through with a single through left side to score Lassere. In the next at bat Christian Cooper notched a RBI on a fielder's choice to make it a 4-3 ballgame. Later in the inning Millsaps tied the game at 4-4 when Woodall stole home.

The offense was not done there however. In the bottom of the 8th inning Andy Page came through in the clutch with a two-out single to left center brining home Johnstone to give Millsaps a 5-4 lead.

Unfortunately, Sewanee had another answer as they scored three runs on five hits in the top of the 9th to reclaim the lead at 7-5.

The Majors made things interesting in the bottom of the 9th as they loaded the bases, but the Tigers held on to secure the 7-5 win.

Game 2
The second game featured much less scoring, but still saw the Tigers come out on top despite Millsaps outhitting Sewanee five to three.

The Tigers got both of their runs on a pair of hits in the top of the 5th inning.

Mason Little led the offense in game number two with a pair of hits.

On the mound Daniel Adams got the start and he scattered just three hits and two earned runs over 4.1 innings. Bubba White entered in the fifth inning and he did not surrender a hit over the final 2.2 innings.
