JACKSON, Miss. – On Wednesday, Millsaps College Director of Athletics
Donald Brooks announced that
Taylor McDaniel has been promoted to Head Cheerleading and Dance Coach/Spirit Coordinator for Millsaps College.
Taylor, who was previously the Millsaps Majorettes Dance Coach, came to Millsaps after teaching choreography at multiple schools around the Jackson area. During her time teaching, she helped her teams dance their way to six state titles in three years in the Pom and Hiphop divisions. She also spent six straight summers working as a UDA instructor.
Taylor started dancing at a young age, learning from private studios and professionals. She danced for her high school, which won a state championship in Hiphop her senior year.
In the 2017-18 school year, the cheer team became the first coed cheer team at Millsaps. McDaniel also said the program has added two more men to the program for the upcoming school year.
McDaniel said she's excited for the chance to take over as spirit coordinator.
"I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to do what I love at a college like Millsaps," she said. "The staff, students, and atmosphere makes Millsaps a special place!"
Brooks
had nothing but praise for what McDaniel has done in her time as the coach of the Majorettes.
"Taylor did an exceptional job as the coach of the dance team," Brooks said. "She brings energy and enthusiasm to the position and I'm excited to see what she'll do as the new cheerleading coach and spirit coordinator."
