JACKSON, Miss.—19 errors and countless other mental mistakes doomed Millsaps on Wednesday as they dropped their SAA opener 0-3 to visiting Birmingham-Southern at the Hangar Dome.
The first set started out even with the teams trading points back and forth. But with the Majors ahead 6-5, BSC went on a 9-2 run to pull ahead and never look back. 15-10 would be as close as Millsaps would come before dropping set 1, 12-25.
Set two started out even until the Majors went on one of their patented runs to give themselves a 12-9 lead. But Millsaps committed 9 errors the rest of the way and couldn't recover, as BSC took advantage of the mistakes and took set 2, 25-20.
Everything went the Panthers way in set 3, as they jumped out to a 15-4 quick lead and never took their foot off the gas as they ran away with set 3, and the match, 25-9.
Offensively, the Majors were led by
McKenzi Petricko, who had 7 kills, and
Erica Bennett, who had 6. The Majors also had 6 blocks, with
Morgan Vincent and
Emily Herring chipping in 3 block assists each.
What's Next?
Millsaps will look to get back in the win column as they welcome the Warriors of Hendrix College to the Hangar Dome on Saturday at 12 PM for another SAA showdown.
