JACKSON, Miss.—Sometimes all it takes is one or two plays to shift the whole momentum of a match.
Millsaps came into Sunday's SAA match against Rhodes losers of their last two and looking for their first SAA win of the season. After dropping game 1, 17-25, the Majors broke through and took game 2, 25-22.
Neither team could pull far ahead in the third game, as the teams traded points back and forth. Rhodes used a 5-1 run to take a 17-14 lead. But, the Majors tied it up thanks to an ace by
Carly Trimarche and a pair of kills by
Maddie Grace McCurdy. The two teams continued to have an answer for one another until the Majors were serving for the game at 24-23. Cue the momentum shift. The Lynx, who were also looking for their first SAA win of the season, took advantage of 4 Millsaps errors over the next 5 points to take game 3, 27-25.
The game 4 win took the wind out of the Majors sails as Millsaps couldn't recover in game 4. Rhodes started off on a 7-1 run and never looked back. The Majors got as close as 18-21 late in the set, but the Lynx used a 4-0 to finish the game and take the match, 3-1.
Offensively, the Majors were led by
McKenzi Petricko and Morgan Vincent who had 13 kills each while McCurdy had 12. Gracie Bellnap had 24 assists to lead the way. Defensively, Payton Passantino was tops for Millsaps
with 18 digs.
