ROME, Ga. -- The Millsaps College men's tennis team traveled to Georgia this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Regional Championships. Taking on some of the best talent that the Atlantic South Region has to offer, the Majors had several strong showings.
Men's Singles Flight A
On Friday morning,
Jacob Niehaus and
John Kimball both advanced past their first opponent. Niehaus scored an upset win (6-4 (4), 7-6 (7)) over the #9 seed Johnny Acosta from North Carolina Wesleyan. Kimball picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over Matthew Bulow from fell Southern Athletic Association (SAA) school Centre College.
In the consolation bracket,
Ben Falk and
Brandon Beck both scored wins for the Majors.
Men's Singles Flight B
Jack Goodwin opened things up by coming back and beating Houston Medlock of Piedmont College 4-6, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (8).
Men's Singles Flight C
Cooper Cearley knocked off Ziion Sibley of Huntingdon College in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
Men's Doubles Flight A
Kimball and Cearley picked up a pair of consolation wins, including erasing a 7-3 deficit to comeback and beat the team of Zoe Raymond and Rhys Richardson from Oglethorpe University on Saturday.
Men's Doubles Flight C
On Friday, the team of Goodwin and Falk cruised to an 8-3 over their opponents from Huntingdon College.
