Volleyball Picks up First Conference Win Against Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga.—Millsaps came into Sunday's match with Oglethorpe looking to, not only end a four-match skid, but also pick up their first SAA win of 2018. The Majors were able to kill two Stormy Petrels with one stone as they knocked off Oglethorpe 3-1 behind a monster match from Morgan Vincent

How It Happened

The first set saw Millsaps jump out to an 18-15 lead behind 5 kills from McKenzi Petricko. After 2 Majors errors and an OU kill tied the game, Millsaps took advantage of 4 Oglethorpe errors, a Vincent kill and a pair of kills from Noelle Coats to put the Stormy Petrels away 25-21.

Game 2 was evenly matched, with both teams trading points back and forth, until midway through the set. With OU leading 14-12, they went on an 11-4 run to take the game and tie the match at 1 apiece.

The third game started much the same, with neither team being able to pull ahead. With OU leading 20-18 late, the Majors rallied and took a 23-22 lead, thanks to an Oglethorpe service error sandwiched between kills by Petricko and Erica Bennett. An OU error and a Vincent kill gave Millsaps the 25-23 win and a 2-1 lead.

Millsaps made sure game 3 wouldn't be as close as they jumped ahead 6-1 before OU called a timeout to try to quell the momentum. It worked, but only briefly as the Majors ended the game on a 10-3 run to close out the match 25-14 and pick up their first SAA win of the season.

The Majors were led by Vincent with 17 kills, 4 blocks, 5 assists, 8 digs and an ace. Bennett added 13 kills while Gracie Bellnap had 28 assists.

It Was Over When

Trailing 21-22 late in the third game, Millsaps kept their confidence and rattled off 4 of the last 5 points to take the set and deflate the home team.

Stat of the Match

Payton Passantino has had double digit digs in every match this season, including 15 against Oglethorpe. Her 227 digs are 2ndin the SAA.

What's Next?

Millsaps will look to keep the momentum going as they welcome Sewanee and Centre to the Hangar Dome next weekend for Family Weekend. Saturday's match starts at 11 AM and Sunday's begins at noon.
