JACKSON, Miss. – Coming into the week at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Athletic Association, the Millsaps College football team is rolling and off to their best start since 2013. After back-to-back road trips, the Majors return home this weekend for a Saturday night SAA game against Rhodes. The Lynx come into the weekend 3-1 on the year. Last week Rhodes picked up their first SAA win, 29-10 over Birmingham Southern.
Last Week
The Majors led 14-0 at halftime, and held off a furious Sewanee comeback attempt to pick up the 21-14 win, and improve their record to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the SAA.
After throwing for 242 yards, 1 TD and completing 75% of his passes (30-40) quarterback
Chance Clowers was named this week's SAA Offensive Player of the Week.
This Week: Saturday, September 29th 7:00pm vs Rhodes (3-1, 1-1).
The Lynx enter this weekend's matchup 3-1 on the year. Rhodes began the season with back-to-back wins over Illinois College and Rose-Hulman. After dropping their conference opener 42-35 to No. 17 Berry, The Lynx rebounded last week with a win over BSC.
The Majors' defense will face off against a team that leads the SAA in both rushing attempts (179) and rushing touchdowns (9). Dual-threat QB P.J. Settles leads Rhodes in both passing and rushing. He has racked up 305 yards and 2 TDs on the ground, while throwing for 848 yards and 8 TDs through the air. Sophomore RB Monroe McKay has punched in 5 of the Rhodes 9 rushing TDs, and also ran for 155 yards.
Senior WR Josh Lucas has been on the recieving end of 4 of Lettles' 8 passing touchdowns, while totaling a team-high 247 reception yards.
On the defensive side of the ball Rhodes is led by junior DL D'On Coofer who has totaled a team-high 27 tackles and also has 5 sacks to his credit. Cody Stock leads the secondary, as he also has 27 tackles and 1 interception.
In last year's matchup on the road, the Majors scored 13 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to pick up the 20-19 win. Millsaps holds a 46-34-3 all-time advantage in the series. The last Rhodes win came by a 37-31 score at Harper Davis Field in 2016.
