Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to Centre

JACKSON, Miss.—As is the same in all sports, errors will kill a team.

Despite having 11 more kills than the visiting Colonels, 35 errors doomed the Majors as they fell to Centre 1-3 on Sunday, falling to 6-9 overall and 1-6 in the SAA.

Centre came into Sunday's match searching for their first conference win of the season. In the first set, with Millsaps leading 22-21 and trying to close out the set, the Colonels reeled off four straight points to take set 1, 25-22.

Centre jumped ahead 10-4 early in the second set and Millsaps couldn't recover. After the Majors pulled within 3, at 15-18, Centre used a 7-5 run to take the second set, 25-20.

Millsaps was determined not to be shutout, as they jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the third, highlighted by 2 kills from Erica Bennett, a kill by Cailey Ness and 2 Colonel errors. Centre tried to answer, but every time they got close, the Majors shut the door, never allowing them to gain momentum. A Bennett kill, 2 aces from Payton Passantino and 2 more Colonel errors put the game out reach before Morgan Vincent finished it off and gave the Majors the 25-22 win.

The two teams swapped 6-1 runs to start the third and traded points back and forth, neither team being able to build a lead. With Centre ahead 24-22, the Majors fought back and tied the set at 24. The teams traded points until 2 Majors errors sealed the deal for Centre, 28-26.

The Majors were led offensively by Vincent's 11 kills followed by Bennett's 10. Passantino had 4 aces on the day while Carly Trimarche led Millsaps with 16 assists. Defensively, Vincent led the way with 4 blocks while Passantino's 37 digs were a match high for both teams.
