Last Week
The Majors took an 18-0 lead to the halftime locker room, and the defense surrendered just one field goal early in the 4th quarter, as Millsaps opened up the season with an 18-3 win over their cross-town rival Belhaven. It was the first win over the Blazers since 2015.
Freshman RB
Quinton Oliver led Millsaps with 36 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. Defensively
Reid Evans led the way with one sack and nine tackles.
Today: 1:00pm vs Westminster College (0-0)
Westminster College makes the trip to Jackson for a week two matchup with the Majors. Today will be the season-opener for Westminster. Last year the Blue Jays, who play in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, finished with a 6-4 overall record.
Westminster will look to senior quarterback Trent White, returning from his First Team All-UMAC selection a year ago, finishing third in the league in total yards. White, a dual threat quarterback who led the team in both passing and rushing yards last year, has two of his top receivers from last season in Matt Quarles and Lucas Robinson.
Quarles, a First Team selection for special teams, caught five touchdown passes last year. Robinson led the team in touchdown receptions with six. Also returning for the offense is lineman Sam Poole, who was a Second Team nod last season after playing every snap for the Blue Jays in 2017.
Defensively, Westminster returns three All-Conference selections in Jackson Ringhausen, Clayton Bristol, and Anthony Washington. Jacob Money will also continue to be a forth in the back field for Westminster. Looking ahead to the rest of the schedule, Millsaps will welcome non-conference opponent Westminster College to Jackson on September 8
th for the first home game of the season. The Southern Athletic Association portion of the schedule begins in week three with a trip to San Antonio for a matchup with Trinity University.
