Millsaps Falls in First SAA Road Test

CONWAY, Ark. -- The Millsaps College men's basketball team hit the road for the first time in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Friday night as the Majors traveled to Arkansas to take on the Warriors of Hendrix College.

The Warriors led by 10 points at halftime, and outscored the Majors by 13 points in the second half to grab the 94-71 win.

The loss drops the Majors to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in SAA play. Hendrix improves to 6-9 on the year and 2-2 in conference play.

How It Happened
Hendrix came out and jumped on the Majors early on in the first half. The Warriors led by 5 a few different times before Millsaps cut the deficit to 1 on a layup from Newlon Gillihan with 15:44 left to play in the half.

The teams went back and forth, but the Majors were never quite able to string together enough baskets for a lead. It was not until the clock read 3:49 left in the half that Hendrix stretched their lead out to double digits. After Saxton Becker nailed a three-pointer with under 30 seconds on the clock the Warriors settled for a 10 point lead at halftime.

Hendrix began the second half with four consecutive free throws to push their lead out to 14. They would eventually finish shooting an outstanding 84.6% from the free throw line. They went to the line 17 more times than the Majors did, which definitely proved to be on key to their success.

Millsaps got the lead down to 11 on a Becker layup, but that was as close as the Majors would get in the second half.  The Warriors simply had an answer each and every time. The finished the night shooting an even 50% from the field, and made good on 42.3% of their three-point attempts in the win.

Key Contributors
Becker led the Majors in scoring with 15 points on 6-11 shooting. Zachary Tullos led Millsaps in rebounds with 7, while Michael Sullivan and Ryan McLaurin each had 4 assists.
