JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College women's soccer team kicked off homecoming weekend on Friday with a match against Sewanee.
Friday's contest was decided in the second half, following two scores from the visiting Tigers to award Sewanee the 2-0 win.
Sewanee picks up their third conference win, while the Majors fall to 3-10 on the season.
How It Happened
Millsaps began the match with an impressive offensive attack, forcing three corner kicks and three shots. Unfortunately, the Tigers smothered every ball in the box to keep the Majors out of the goal in the first half.
Maddie Moore returned the favor as she held Sewanee scoreless, producing five saves in the opening half.
The pace did not change, but an effective adjustment at half time sent the away team ahead of MC in the 58th minute. The Majors were unable to get through the Tigers back row, and Sewanee took advantage of the field position to extend their lead to two.
Despite only allowing 16 shots on the afternoon, two second half goals allowed the University of the South to leave Harper Davis Field victorious.
What's Next?
The Majors will close out the weekend on Sunday when they face the nationally ranked and undefeated Colonels of Centre College. Game time is set for noon.
