JACKSON, Miss. -- On Friday night the Millsaps College men's soccer took to the pitch at Harper Davis Field for their first home match in nearly a month.
The Majors entertained the Tigers of Sewanee for a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match.
The match was scoreless at halftime, but a pair of quick strikes from the Tigers midway through the second half proved to be the difference in the 2-1 loss.
With the loss Millsaps falls to 5-8 overall this season. They are 1-4 in conference play. Sewanee improve to 9-3-1 overall and 4-1 in the SAA.
How It Happened
The action was back and forth in the early going with neither team able to mount any significant attacks toward goal in the first half.
Things changed in the 63rd minute when Millsaps was given a red card forcing the Majors to play a man down for the remainder of the match.
Just over two minutes later Sewanee took advantage of the extra man to score the game's first goal. The Tigers made it a 2-0 lead with a second goal 14 seconds later.
The Majors rallied back, and in the 73rd minute a set piece from
Matthew Reed was put home by
Gabriel Ryce to make it 2-1.
Unfortunately, several Millsaps attempts were turned away down the stretch as Sewanee held on for the 2-1 win.
