JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College volleyball team hosted the second meeting against the Sewanee Tigers on Sunday, looking for a better result than what the first contest concluded.
Millsaps dug a whole in the first two sets that was too deep to get out of, dropping the rematch with Sewanee 0-3.
How It Happened
The Tigers were the owners of a seven point lead in the first set when the Majors finally strung multiple points together to cut the score to 10-13.
McKenzi Petricko found her way around the outstretched arms of the defenders to pick up a few scores, but the Tigers were rolling all over the court in the opening set to secure the 1-0 advantage.
Payton Passantino, alongside
Morgan Vincent, led the defensive side of the ball to aid the struggling attack. However, Sewanee's pace went unmatched, topping out at a ten point lead before coasting to a 25-15 win in the second set.
As the Majors, pressured by a sense of urgency, responded by taking a 10-3 lead to begin the third set. Adjustments were made across the net and the points came further between one another, evening the score at 19. Sewanee took over after winning four of the next five serves, forcing a Millsaps timeout. Two incredible serves from
Katelyn Thomas and a Vincent kill made it a neck-and-neck contest. Unfortunately, an opposing timeout ended the hopes of a fourth set, awarding the Tigers with a 3-0 win on the road.
Notables
Bennett, with a team-high of 10 kills, surpassed 1,000 career kills at Millsaps College.
