JACKSON, Miss. -- On Tuesday, the Millsaps College volleyball team went right down the road for a rematch with the Blazers of Belhaven University.
The Majors picked up their 15th win of the season after taking down the in-town rival 3-0.
How It Happened
Belhaven started the midweek contest off hot, winning six of the seven opening points. Five kills by the senior,
Erica Bennett, knotted the score at 10, but the Blazers worked a two point lead at 15-13. An eight point run lit a fire that was too hot to burn out, sending the Majors to a 1-0 advantage.
Neither team maintained the upper hand until Millsaps went for seven straight points, going ahead by eight. At 15-7,
McKenzi Petricko took over on offense, adding to her nightly total of 17 kills to win the second set 25-12.
The Blazers took an early 3-1 lead, but that would be as far as they would get, giving up multiple runs to Millsaps. BU could not gain any ground on several failed attacks, losing the final set 15-25 to give the 3-0 victory to the visiting Majors.
Notables
Defensively,
Morgan Vincent led the way with 13 digs, while
Payton Passantino gathered nine. Seniors,
Cailey Ness and
Mary Katherine Burrow, saw action in the nonconference matchup.
What's Next?
Millsaps will embark on their final road trip of the regular season, with a match against Rhodes College on Saturday at noon and a battle with Hendrix College on Sunday.
