MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- On Saturday, the Millsaps College volleyball team found their sixth conference win at Rhodes College, with a 3-1 victory for the season sweep over the Lynx.
The Majors dropped the first set, but bounced back to win on the road in four sets.
How It Happened
An early seven point run pushed the Lynx to a 14-5 lead, forcing the Majors to struggle in the opening set. Millsaps worked hard to bring the deficit to just four points, but Rhodes forced a timeout after going up 23-18. Unfortunately, a late run led by
Katelyn Thomas could not keep the Lynx from winning the first set 25-23.
Senior,
Erica Bennett, started off on the right foot, forcing a kill on the hardwood before serving the next four points to go on top 5-0. Service came back around to number 23, the lead increased to eight points at 17-9. The visiting Majors took the second set 25-16, splitting the final 14 serves with Rhodes.
The third set featured five lead changes and 10 ties, but never included a lead more than four points. Bennett, alongside
McKenzi Petricko, covered their season averages of three kills per set, totaling nine kills in the third set. Millsaps outscored the Lynx 25-22 to take the 2-1 advantage in the match.
Rhodes was unable to get the offense going, giving up their serve before they could string together more than three consecutive points. The Majors earned the majority of their serves to win 25-21, picking up the 3-1 victory in the fourth set.
Notables
Thomas had herself a day, recording 31 assists, 12 digs, and three aces. Additionally, Petricko led the offense with 16 kills, while Bennett contributed 15 to the team's total of 56.
Defensively,
