10/4/2019 3:30:00 PM

JACKSON, Miss. -- Coming off of their first loss of the 2019 season, the Millsaps College football team returns home this weekend for a matchup with the Colonels of Centre College.

The Colonels are receiving votes in the most recent AFCA NCAA Division III Top-25 Poll.

Last Time Out
Last weekend, the Millsaps College football team went on the road for the first time in Southern Athletic Association play. The Majors traveled to Georgia for a matchup with No. 10 Berry College.

The host Vikings led 3-0 at the halftime break, and used a pair of big plays in the 3rd quarter to capture the momentum in the 31-14 win.

The first loss of the season drops the Majors to 3-1 overall on the year. They are now 1-1 in league play.

Saturday: Centre College (2-2, 0-2 SAA), 1:00 p.m., Harper Davis Field
The Colonels enter Saturday's matchup off of a pair of identical, 20-13 losses to SAA opponents. Centre dropped their conference opener on the road at Austin College, and last week suffered a loss to Trinity University.

Key Players for the Colonels
Senior Clark Payne has taken every snap at quarterback for the Colonels. He has totaled seven touchdowns, but has also tossed five interceptions.

A pair of sophomores, Patric Edwards and Dameon Jones lead the Centre ground attack with a combined 722 yards and five touchdowns. Edwards leads the team in both of those categories.

Junior Jordan Gunter and sophomore Jay Becherer have each hauled in double-digit receptions. Gunter is the team leader with 223 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior Jaylen Jones leads the way with 22 total tackles this year. Meanwhile, junior Clayton Bell has a team-high four sacks.

The Colonels secondary has totaled three interceptions, while junior Nate Johnson has a team-high five pass breakups.
