JACKSON, Miss. -- On Saturday evening the Millsaps College men's basketball team welcomed the East Texas Baptist University Tigers to the Hangar Dome for a non-conference matchup.
The Majors never trailed, and led by as many as 25 points in the second half on their way to a 82-73 win.
The win pushes Millsaps to 2-1 overall on the year. ETBU falls to 1-1.
How It Happened
The Majors controlled the opening tip off and a few seconds later
Anthony Hughes Jr. found
Kaleb Jenkins in the corner for a three-pointer, his first of two on the evening.
The Tigers hung around for most of the first half, as despite shooting 50% from the field the Majors only led by nine at the halftime break.
Millsaps started to wear ETBU down in the second half however.
She'Chem Grant connected a three-pointer with 17:45 on the clock to put the Majors ahead 45-31 and force a Tiger timeout. That lead never dipped below double-digits until a late ETBU basket with the outcome already decided.
A bucket from
Joshua Miller with 8:07 on the clock gave the Majors their largest lead of the game at 68-43, and Millsaps was able to hold off a late comeback attempt to secure the 82-73 win.
Notables
Jenkins led all Millsaps scorers with 15 points. Hughes and Grant also posted double-digit scoring totals with 14 points each.
The Majors out-rebounded ETBU 43-34, and
Kalvin Spikes led the way with seven total boards.
