SHREVEPORT, La. -- On Tuesday night, the Millsaps College men's basketball team played their first game outside of metro-Jackson this season. The Majors traveled to Louisiana for a non-conference matchup with the Centenary College Gents.
The game was back-and-forth for the entire first half with Centenary holding a slim 31-28 lead at halftime. Unfortunately the Gents outscored the Majors 53-23 in the second half to pick up the 84-51 win.
The loss drops Millsaps to 2-2 overall this season. Centenary improves to 1-1.
How It Happened
Freshman
Kaleb Jenkins scored eight of his team-high ten points in the opening half for the Majors. He made a pair of three-pointers and converted on a pair of free throws late inside the final three minutes.
Unfortunately the Gents made the final basket of the half to carry a 31-28 lead to the locker room.
Centenary quickly jumped well ahead of the Majors in early part of the second half. The Gents opened up with a 20-6 run in the first five minutes.
The Majors defense made some adjustments and started to limit Centenary's offense, but unfortunately the late deficit proved too large to overcome.
Notables
Jenkins finished as the lone Millsaps player in double-figures. He also led the way on the boards with a team-high eight rebounds, while
She'Chem Grant dished out three assists to lead Millsaps.
