Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Tripped up by LeTourneau

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College men's basketball team returned to the Hangar Dome on Sunday for a rematch with the LeTourneau University Yellowjackets.

Strong play on the defensive end of the floor helped give the Majors a five-point lead at halftime, but the Yellowjackets responded and battled back in the second half to come away with an 87-77 victory.

The loss drops Millsaps to 3-3 overall this year while LeTourneau improves to 4-1

How It Happened
Outstanding shooting from beyond the three-point arc helped propel the Majors to the lead in the first half.

When Ryan McLaurin connected on a three with 6:36 to play in the half, it gave Millsaps their largest lead of the game at 37-27.

LeTourneau chipped away at the lead, but a jumper from Anthony Hughes in the final seconds put the Majors up 41-36 at the break.

Millsaps shot 42.8% from the field in the first 20 minutes. They were even better from distance connecting on 7-14 attemtps from three-point territory.

In the second half the Yellowjackets battled back to tie the game at 47-47 five minutes in. The two teams continued to trade baskets for several possessions, but when LeTourneau took a 56-55 lead with 10:26 left to play Millsaps was never able to recapture an advantage.

The Majors got as close as one point on two seperate occassions, but unfortunately could not complete the comeback as the Yellowjackets held on for an 87-77 win.

Notables
Kalvin Spikes notched his second double-double of the season with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Hughes led Millsaps in scoring with 15, while Kaleb Jenkins also finished in double-figures. Jenkins also led the Majors in assists with 4.
