JACKSON, Miss. -- On Saturday, the Millsaps College men's basketball team returned to the Hangar Dome after the Thanksgiving holiday for a non-conference game against the Louisiana College Wildcats.
It was a back and forth game for most of the evening with the lead changing hands 17 times. In the end the Majors outscored the Wildcats by 10 points in the second half to secure the 76-68 win.
The victory pushes Millsaps to 4-3 overall this year while Louisiana College falls to 2-1.
How It Happened
The Wildcats scored first, and actually led by as many as 6 points in the first half. The Majors quickly responded however, as consecutive jumpers from
Kaleb Jenkins and
Dillon Young cut the LC lead to 39-37 at halftime.
The Millsaps offense made better than 50% of their attempts in the first half, but the Wildcats created their advantage by making 7-9 attempts from beyond the three point arc.
It took just over five minutes of the second half for Millsaps to tie the game.
Zachary Tullos converted on a jumper to make it a 49-49 game, and the Majors never trailed again.
It was the defense that proved to be the difference down the stretch for Millsaps, as they scored 10 points off of Wildcat turnovers and allowed just one made three-point basket in the final 20 minutes.
LC fought back to tie the game at 60-60, but it was all Millsaps from that point on as the Majors doubled up the Wildcats over the final 7 minutes to score the 76-68 win.
Notables
Jenkins led Millsaps with 16 points and added a career-high 6 assists.
Tullos poured in a season-high 12 points to go along with a team-high 7 rebounds.
