JACKSON, Miss. -- For the second consecutive season the Millsaps College men's soccer program scored a first-round upset win in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament. The Majors now set their sights on a semifinal matchup with the No. 2 seed Centre College.
Last Time Out
The Majors opened up the 2019 postseason on Saturday with a SAA quarterfinal match against Sewanee.
The match was tied 1-1 at halftime, and remained that way throughout the second-half.
Late in the second period of overtime
Austin Miller scored his first goal of the season to give the Majors the 2-1 win.
With the win Millsaps enters this weekend at 7-9 overall on the season.
Tomorrow: Centre College (14-3-1, 6-1 SAA), 3:30 p.m. CT, Atlanta, Ga.
The No. 2 seeded Colonels come into the weekend off of an 8-2 quarterfinal win against Birmingham-Southern. Center is on an eight-match win streak with their last loss coming against Oglethorpe back on September 28.
Key Players for the Colonels
The Centre offensive attack begins and ends with Alexander Garuba. The senior forward has 17 goals on the season, second best in the entire conference. The next closest teammate is junior Dylan Barth who has seven. Senior Nick Mazzarella leads the team with five total assists.
Defensively, senior Tate Johnson is the primary goalkeeper for the Colonels. He has allowed 12 goals in 17 matches played. He has a goals-against-average of 0.74 and boasts an .813 saves percentage.
