BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- On Sunday, the Millsaps College men's basketball team opened up the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) portion of their schedule by traveling to take on the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern College.
The Majors built up a 20 point lead at halftime, and outscored the Panthers in the second half to run away with a 100-72 win.
Millsaps has now won five consecutive games, and improves their record to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in the SAA. BSC falls to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the league.
How It Happened
The Majors offense was dialed in from the get-go, pouring in 52 points in the first half on 60% shooting from the field. Despite the Panthers going 5-10 from beyond the three-point arc, Millsaps was able to hold them to just 32 points to take a 20 point lead to the halftime locker room.
In the second half the Panthers tried to comeback using a huge advantage at the free throw line. BSC made 12 of their 15 opportunities, while Millsaps only shot three free throws over the final 20 minutes.
The Majors connected on six more three-pointers to finish the afternoon 11-26 from beyond the arc, and outscored the Panthers by eight points in the second half to run away with the 100-72 win.
Notables
Anthony Hughes led Millsaps with 15 points, he also pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds.
Kaleb Jenkins added 12 points and led the way in assists with 5.
Saxton Becker and
Zachary Tullos each scored 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Majors.
What's Next?
Millsaps will close out the non-conference portion of their 2019-20 schedule on Tuesday when they host Covenant College. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
