JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College baseball team welcomed the Gents of Centenary College to Twenty Field on Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup.
Centenary was able to take a 3-2 lead in the 6th inning, and then hold off a Millsaps rally late in the 9th to pick up the win.
The Gents improve to 3-2 overall on the season while Millsaps falls to 1-2.
How It Happened
The Majors got on the board first when
Mason Little picked up a RBI on a groundout to second base.
William Warner scored on the play to give Millsaps the early 1-0 lead.
After Centenary picked up a pair of runs in the 3rd inning, Millsaps was able to answer in the 5th.
Brennan Ducote reached on a 2-out single through the right side which brought the reigning SAA Player of the Week in
Jimmy Fondren to the plate. He smoked a ball past the Gents' first baseman for a double which allowed Ducote to score and tie the game at 2-2.
Unfortunately Centenary answered back with an unearned run in the 6th to pull ahead 3-2.
The Majors had their chances all evening long as they stranded 13 base runners, including leaving the bases loaded in the 9th inning, but the Gents relievers were able to pitch out of danger to secure the win.
Key Contributors
Fondren and Ducote continued their torid starts to the 2019 season as each player had a pair of hits to lead Millsaps.
Jimmy Johnstone had the only other hit on the night for the Majors.
What's Next?
Millsaps will hit the road for the first time in 2019 this weekend. They will travel to Georgia for 3 neutral site games. First up is a Friday afternoon contest on the campus of Piedmont College against George Fox University. First pitch is slated for 2:00pm CT.
