DEMOREST, Ga. -- On Friday, the Millsaps College baseball team played their first game away from Twenty Field in the 2019 season. The Majors were in Georgia on the campus of Piedmont College for a matchup with George Fox University from Oregon.
The Majors jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but a 7-run inning in the 2nd and a 4-run inning in the 5th helped propel the Bruins to a 12-3 win.
How It Happened
Millsaps got things going early in the 1st inning.
William Warner led off the ballgame by reaching on an error by the George Fox shortstop. Just a few batters later
Mason Little came through with a single to score Warner and give the Majors a 1-0 lead.
After
Conner Haynes pitched a three up-three down bottom half of the 1st, the Millsaps offense went right back to work in the 2nd.
Keaton Page led off the inning with a home run to make it a 2-0 game in favor of the Majors.
Unfortunately the Bruins responded with 7 runs in their half of the inning, three of them unearned, to take a commanding 7-2 lead.
After Millsaps plated a run on a sacrifice fly from Little in the 5th, George Fox responded with 4 more runs to go ahead 11-3.
The Bruins added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th inning to cap off their 12-3 win.
Key Contributors
Despite the score, the Majors' offense did tie the Bruins with 11 total hits.
Brennan Ducote, Page and Little each had a multiple hits for Millsaps, including a pair of doubles for Ducote. Page had the solo home run, and it was Little who led the way with a pair of RBIs for the Majors.
What's Next?
Millsaps will be right back at Piedmont College tomorrow afternoon for another neutral site game. This time the Majors will take on the No. 13 Captains of Christopher Newport University. First pitch is slated for 1:00pm CT.
