DEMOREST, Ga. -- The Millsaps College baseball team returned to the campus of Piedmont College on Saturday afternoon for a neutral site matchup with No. 13 Christopher Newport University.
The Captains grabbed the first lead of the game in the 3rd inning, but it was a 7-run 8th inning that really helped give them a 16-2 win.
How It Happened
Both teams struggled to get much going in the way of offense early on before Christopher Newport was able to get on the board with an unearned run in the top of the 3rd. The Captains added another run in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th to take a 5-0 lead midway through the game.
A 4-run 7th inning and 7-run 8th from CNU really put the game out of reach for the Majors.
Millsaps did plate a pair of runs in their half of the 8th inning, both coming on errors by the Captains' shortstop.
Key Contributors
Millsaps totaled 6 hits on the afternoon, including a double from
Will Neely to lead off of the 8th. He eventually scored when CNU made an error on a ball hit by
William Warner.
What's Next?
Millsaps will wrap up their weekend in Georgia early tomorrow morning with a neutral site game against Whitworth University on the campus of Oglethorpe University. First pitch is set for 8:00 am CT (9:00 am local time).
