JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College women's tennis team opened up the home portion of their 2019 schedule on Saturday afternoon by hosting the Hawks of Huntingdon College.

The Majors were able to use a total team effort to top the Hawks 7-2, and improve their record to 3-0 overall. 

How It Happened
The Majors jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage in doubles play.

Grace Gaskins and Maggie Dabadie got things going early on with an 8-3 win at the No. 1 doubles spot. Ella Shields and Morris Kelly Clayton followed that up with an 8-2 win at No. 2 before Morgan Jenkins and Jillian Sandoz came back from a 5-2 deficit to take doubles No. 3 8-5.  

As the match moved into singles Dabadie picked up a win at No. 1 when her opponent defaulted after 4 games. Dabadie did lead 3-1 at the time of the default. 

After Huntingdon picked up a point at singles No. 3, Marissa Brown clinched the match for the Majors with a smooth 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4.

Amelia Christy picked up a huge third set victory at No. 6 to pick up a point for Millsaps, and Shields took the No. 2 spot by scores of 6-2, 7-6.

What's Next?
The Majors will be back on the road next weekend as they travel to Shreveport, Louisiana for several matches. Millsaps will play LeTourneau University and Centenary College on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend with a neutral site match against Austin College on Sunday.
