Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's Tennis Improves to 6-0 with Two Wins on Sunday

SHREVEPORT, La. -- On Sunday, the Millsaps College women's tennis team wrapped up their weekend in Louisiana with a pair of neutral site matches against LeTourneau University and Austin College.

In the morning match against the Yellow Jackets Millsaps was able to cruise to the 9-0 win. Later in the afternoon the Majors took on the 'Roos of Austin College, and after falling behind in doubles play, were able to come back and sweep the singles matches for a 6-3 win.

LeTourneau University
It was all Millsaps in the first match of the day.

Morgan Jenkins and Jillian Sandoz got things started with an 8-0 sweep at No. 3. Ella Shields and Morris Kelly Clayton were not far behind with their 8-1 win at No. 2, while Grace Gaskins and Maggie Dabadie finished off the sweep with an 8-6 win.

In singles play Shields scored the first win after her opponent retired, and Dabadie had a great 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1. Jenkins took her match 7-5, 6-3, Marissa Brown scored a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 4, Jordyn Kanak picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win and Sandoz polished off the shutout win with her 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Austin College
In the Austin College match it was Jenkins and Sandoz who were able to capture a huge 8-4 win at doubles No. 3 to stave off a 0-3 start.

With the 'Roos leading 2-1 the match moved into singles play, and it was there that the Majors had their way. Winning 5 straight singles matches after going down 1-2 in doubles action is an extremely difficult feat to pull off, but that is just what Millsaps did.

Both Jenkins and Dabadie had incredible come from behind wins. After dropping their first sets both players won tiebreakers by 10-3 scores.

At the No. 1 spot Gaskins took down the No. 49 individual player in the country with her 6-2, 6-0 win, and it was Brown who clinched the win for Millsaps with a 3rd set victory just seconds before Kanak won No. 6 by scores of 6-4, 6-3.

What's Next?
The Majors, who now sit at 6-0 on the year, return to Jackson this weekend for a match with cross-town rival Belhaven University. On Friday, March 1st matches from Coach Montgomery Courts are scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
