JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College women's tennis team hosted cross-town rival Belhaven University at the Coach Montgomery Courts on Friday afternoon.
The Majors were able to use a total team effort to come away with a 9-0 sweep of the Blazers.
The win improves the Millsaps record to 7-0 overall.
How It Happened
As is becoming common in the early part of this season, the Majors jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage in doubles play.
The combination of
Marissa Brown and
Sarah Hayek quickly dispatched of their opponent at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-0.
Natalie Toups and
Amelia Christy followed that up with an 8-0 win at the No. 2 spot, and the team of
Ella Shields/
Morris Kelly Clayton gave Millsaps the 3-0 lead with their 8-5 win at doubles No. 1.
Singles play was all Millsaps as well.
Tori Barbier,
Jillian Sandoz and
Isabella Hutchins all shutout their opponents by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Morgan Jenkins secured the 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1,
Camille Landry scored a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5, and
Jordyn Kanak wrapped up the shutout with her three-set win (4-6, 6-0, 10-5) at No. 2.
Today was the 4th shutout win in 7 matches for the Majors this year.
What's Next?
Millsaps now shifts their attention to their spring break trip. Before traveling to Orlando, Florida the Majors will take on Emory University on March 8th in Atlanta. Matches are set to begin at 2:00 p.m. CT.
