Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Dominates Hendrix to Stay Unbeaten at Home

JACKSON, Miss.—As the year winds down, the grind of a long season can start to take its toll on players.

That's why, sometimes it's important to have a game like Millsaps had on Friday against Hendrix. The Warriors, who were without their top two scorers, couldn't keep up with Millsaps and the Majors had a chance to rest some players late behind a lopsided 66-34 win over Hendrix. The win moves Millsaps to 19-4 overall and 10-2 in the SAA. It also makes the Majors just one win away from clinching the SAA regular season championship.

How It Happened

Hendrix got on the board first, leading 2-0 after a Kessie Jenkins jumper. Millsaps tied the game up after a pair of Anna Wilson free throws and then used two baskets from Dia Fortenberry along with buckets from Millicent Butler, Wilson and Braxton Thomas to go on a 10-0 run. Hendrix was able to pull within seven, but couldn't keep the Majors off the board as Millsaps led 19-7 after one.

The Majors defense was the story to start the second quarter, keeping the Warriors scoreless until the 4:49 mark. The Majors outscored Hendrix 17-8 in the second and went into the half with a 36-15 lead.

Morgan McCrea opened up the third on a 5-0 run, knocking down a three before taking a steal coast to coast for the fast break layup. A Wilson layup with 5:43 left in the third extended the lead to 30 and the Majors led by 32 heading into the final frame.

Hendrix was able to put up 14 points in the fourth quarter but by then the game was well out of hand.

Millsaps was led by McCrea's game-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals. Butler and Thomas each had 11 points for the Majors, who had nine girls score in the win.

Stats of the Game

-Millsaps outrebounded Hendrix 50-31 total and 39-24 on the defensive side.

-The Major defense held the Warriors to just 23% shooting from the field and 16% from three.
