MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- On Sunday, the Millsaps College baseball team returned to Satuffer Field on the campus of Rhodes College to wrap up a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series with the Lynx.
The Majors scored the opening two runs of the game, and led 4-1 at one point. Unfortunately, the Rhodes offense dominated the middle innings en route to a 16-5 run-rule victory.
After this weekend's series the Millsaps record stands at 4-18 overall. They are 2-6 in SAA play.
With the 2-1 series win, the Lynx improved their mark to 12-12 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
How It Happened
The Majors offense got things going early on Sunday afternoon.
Brennan Ducote opened up the top of the 1st with a 1-out single, and he came around to score on
Mason Little's triple to left-center. A
Jimmy Fondren RBI single scored Little to give Millsaps a 2-0 lead.
Rhodes answered with a RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning, but the Majors went right back to work in the 2nd.
Keaton Page and
Chris Hart led off the inning with back-to-back singles. They both advanced into scoring position on a
Jimmy Johnstone bunt. After a Rhodes pitching change, Ducote came through with a RBI groundout, and Fondren followed with his second RBI single of the game to put Millsaps up 4-1.
Unfortunately the Lynx dominated the middle innings. Rhodes scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 2nd, 3 in the bottom of the 3rd and another 6 spot in the 5th to grab a 16-4 lead.
Millsaps put a run up in the 6th on a Johnstone RBI single, but Rhodes held on down the stretch to secure the 16-5 run-rule win.
Key Contributors
Little and Hart each had a pair of hits to lead the Majors. Little added a team-high 2 RBIs.
