Softball Welcomes Sewanee to Jackson for SAA Series

JACKSON, Miss.—The Millsaps softball team, despite the adjusted schedule due to weather, will host the Tigers of Sewanee to the Millsaps Softball Complex this weekend for a three game series. 
 
The Majors enter their second weekend of SAA play with a 3-10 overall record and 0-3 in the SAA after dropping three to Hendrix last Saturday. Freshman catcher Karlie Galloway led the way for the Majors against the Warriors, hitting .750 (6-8) with four runs, a double and an RBI. Fellow freshman Ty Bergeron batted .625 (5-8), scoring two runs with two doubles and four RBIs.   
 
The Majors offense is led by Galloway, who is hitting .410 on the season with six doubles and 10 RBI's. Lindsey Osbon, Jordan Lipari and Mackenzie Johnson, along with Bergeron, are all hitting over .300 while Lipari and Bergeron each have nine RBI's. Junior Kendall Carder sits third in the SAA with eight stolen bases. 
 
Saturday, March 9th 7:00 p.m. & Sunday, March 10th 12:00 p.m. (DH) vs Sewanee Tigers (0-8, 0-2 SAA)
 
Millsaps will take on Sewanee, looking to get into the SAA win column for the first time this season. Sewanee comes into this weekend's matchup after being swept in a pair of games by Berry last weekend, 28-8, and are a combined 4-40 over the last two seasons. 
 
Key Players for Sewanee
  • Rachel Hoffman-Hoffman is the top bat in the Tigers lineup, leading Sewanee with a .417 average. She also has a homerun and five RBI's.  
  • Taylor Wagner-Second on the team in batting average at .333, Wagner leads the team with three doubles and has four RBI's. 
  • Kendell Goodrum-Goodrum, just a freshman, is the Tigers main pitcher. She sports a 7.15 ERA with four strikeouts.  
The Majors and Tigers met four times last season with Millsaps sweeping the regular season before knocking Sewanee out of the SAA Tournament with a 6-1 win.
