JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College women's tennis team was at home on Sunday for the first time since March 1st. The Majors welcomed the Colonels of Centre College to Coach Mongthomery Courts for a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match.
Unfortunately the Colonels jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after doubles play, and quickly wrapped up the match with a pair of singles wins to score the 5-1 victory.
How It Happened
Centre took all three of the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead.
Morris Kelly Clayton and
Ella Shields looked to pick up a win for Millsaps at three, but Centre held on for an 8-5 win.
In singles play
Grace Gaskins was able to score a 6-4, 6-2 win over a regional ranked opponent at one, but the Colonels early advantage proved to be the difference.
Centre took singles two, and despite Millsaps leading two of the other matches on court, when Shields dropped a hard fought three-set match at three, the Colonels were able to clinch their 5-1 win.
What's Next?
The Majors will be back in action at home twice this week. First up is the final non-conference match of the season against East Texas Baptist University on Thursday.
Matches from Coach Montgomery Courts are set to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
