MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Millsaps College women's tennis team opened up the 2019 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against No. 5 seeded Birmingham-Southern College.
The Majors were able to grab a 2-1 advantage after the doubles matches and won the first three singles matches to advance to the semifinals with a 5-1 win.
How It Happened
Morris Kelly Clayton played alongside
Grace Gaskins at doubles one, and the pair scored an 8-3 win to get the day going for the Majors.
Ella Shields and
Maggie Dabadie secured an 8-4 win at two, but the Panthers were able to pick up a point at the three spot to make it a 2-1 score.
Gaskins, who is now ranked as the No. 7 player in the Atlantic South Region, started off singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at number one.
Marissa Brown picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at four, and senior
Jordyn Kanak clinched the match win for Millsaps with her 6-2, 6-2 win at six.
What's Next?
The Majors will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a semifinal match against the No. 1 seed and No. 30 team in the country Sewanee. Matches are scheduled to begin play at 12:00 p.m.
