JACKSON, Miss.—For the very first time, the Millsaps track and field teams didn't have to travel for a meet.
The Majors welcomed BSC, Mississippi College and Hinds CC to Jackson for the college's first ever meet. Despite some stormy weather, the event went off without a hitch and both teams had multiple winners throughout the day.
Women
Abby Tew and
Lily Pudlik finished first and second, respectively, in the 3000-meter run with times of 11:23.36 and 11:35.74.
Carolina Teague also picked up a win in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 1:14.09.
Onyx Magno-Hester snagged a second place in the 800-meters, crossing the finish line in 2:39.89.
In the field events,
Essence Davis finished third in the long jump with a distance of 4.34 meters.
Shelby Wilson and Davis finished one-two in the high jump with heights of 1.55 meters and 1.50 meters, respectively.
Payton Passantino was first in the shotput with a distance of 11.25 meters and was first in the javelin with a long toss of 37.74 meters.
Men
Landon Wimberley picked up a second place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.42 seconds. He also finished third in the 200-meters, crossing the finish line in 23.45 seconds.
Xavier Venious was tops in the 400-hurdles, completing the event in 58.16 seconds. On the distance side,
Zach Deihl was seventh in the 800-meters, finishing in 2:08.48.
In the field events,
Derrick Burt,
James Turner and
Zachary Tullos finished second, third and fourth in the long jump while Tullos also grabbed a second place in the triple jump.
Asael Hernandez-Loredo tied for fifth in the shotput, was first in the discus and second in the hammer throw.
Travion Robertson snagged a fifth in the shotput and a third in the hammer throw.
Michael Tadda was second in the javelin with a toss of 50.80 meters.
What's Next
Both teams will be in action as they head to Hendrix for the SAA Championship Meet. It's spread across Friday and Saturday.
